Eight rounds of ten questions covering topics such as music, quotations, Canada and food carried the night while the students served snacks between the rounds. The 40 something teams had to come up with team names (nice try table 22 – Hugh Jasses) with the judges selecting "Smarter Than Sarah Palin" as the best name.

It is awesome how the community, students and school come together to help out the music program. The students, teachers and parents organize the event; community leaders volunteer as judges; local businesses donate items for fundraising; and a articulate, funny, handsome and modest community guy acts as MC.

I hope everyone had as much fun answering the questions as I had helping out the school. If you are interested in taking part next year, keep an eye out for ads, etc. for the trivia night which is usually the third or fourth Saturday in November.

As mentioned at the end of the evening, below is a complete spreadsheet of the winning teams and scores.

Today I joined the fun crew at CKNW (including afternoon host Christy Clark pictured with me at the left) to sell newspapers at the corner of Georgia and Granville for the annual Raise A Reader campaign. The money raised stays in the community to support local literacy programs. Since 2002 this program has raised over $10 million.

The two hours on the street were a lot of fun with members of the Vancouver Canucks stopping by – including mascot Finn who, well, attacked me…photos to follow.

We really need to bring this event to Port Coquitlam next year.

This is my sixth year organizing the event and I just love it. The participants, over 200 volunteers and the support of many community groups makes the day that much more special.

Not sure how much was raised, but I am guessing in the $100,000 range.

I love this photo at the left with me, the Man in Motion Rick Hansen (who many people do not realize was a personal friend of Terry Fox) and Donna White, Provincial Director for the Terry Fox Foundation. Having Terry’s image in the background truly makes this photo special.

If you are interested in getting involved with next year’s Terry Fox Hometown Run either as a runner or volunteer please let me know – dave@dave.ca. See you on Sunday, September 13, 2009!

Many organizations, individual, companies and schools (like North Surrey Secondary picture at the left) got involved by wearing pink and saying NO to bullying.

Over the past month or so, I had the honour of working with Christy Clark and CKNW on making the day a reality. Mostly, I helped with the online presence / strategy / viral marketing / social networking / getting the word out part of the event. By yesterday, over 125,000 people confirmed on Facebook that they would wear pink and say NO to bullying.

Hundreds of emails, Facebook messages, photos and videos have been pouring in and I think it will be a few weeks until we have everything sorted out.

The good news is the event was a success with lots of media and awareness on the issue of bullying. The better news is that a Foundation will soon be set-up so the anti-bullying message continues throughout the year and leading up to the last Wednesday of every February where the Wear Pink event will be held. Stay tuned for more details.

I will be a guest on Christy’s show today on CKNW 980AM starting at 12:35pm to talking about the event and the growth / interest from the online community (click here to listen live via the web).

Thanks to everyone involved in the Wear Pink event and to all of you who got involved.

In case you are wondering “why pink?” – click here or check out the 30 second video below.

Professional Wrestling often gets a bad rap and some folks are surprised that I actually own a pro-wrestling company (ECCW). But like most forms of entertainment the fans and performers are great people and when called upon, are willing to help out people in need.

Last night in Maple Ridge, ECCW was able to step up and help Laura Caldovino in her battle with cancer as we put on a “Wrestling With Cancer” show at her old high school in front of 275 fans. We were able to raise roughly $2,000 in cash and donations (e.g., gas cards). In the photo above are wrestlers Mikey DaSheezits, El Phantasmo, Disco Fury and much of my head (as I continue to talk into the microphone) along with Laura. The wrestlers in the photo all went to the high school – Westview Secondary School – and knew Laura and/or her family.

The show was a lot of fun and we were glad we could help make a small difference for Laura. Click here to read a news piece on the event.

In total, there were 20 people who had their heads shaved in support of cancer research – including a 10-year-old girl with waist length hair and 18-year-old Curtis Hargrove who ran from Alberta to PoCo over the last 34 days just to have his head shaved in Terry’s hometown! This event raised roughly $40,000.

I will have more on the entire event later including more photos and a couple of videos…including a really bad Sinéad O’Connor song, photos of my head with names of my supporters and what I consider to be some cool dancing with a rap of a Weird Al Yankovic song….only if I had known someone had a camera running and not just taking still photos.

If you would like to make a pledge and have you name written on my head for this Terry Fox weekend, please CLICK HERE and thank-you to everyone who has already done so.

Thank-you to everyone who came out to support the cause and special thanks to Global TV’s Steve Darling and Kaitlyn Herbst for MCing the event – and reading my Facebook headshave posts!
