Roughly a year ago, I worked with the ex wife of triple child murderer Allan Shoenborn to ensure Shoenborn was not released from a psychiatric hospital where he had just one year of “treatment” after being found “not criminally responsible” for murdering his children.
We were successful, but under the law Shoenborn would be up for release every year in April.
This past Saturday morning I Tweeted:
In 90 days triple child murderer Allan Shoenborn has yearly release hearing. Working with @jonmccomb980 to ensure this does NOT happen.
Within a few hours a number of media outlets contacted me for more for information and a couple of interviews (like here and here).
The overall theme from the reporters is they cannot believe how little legislatively has been done in a year to keep people the Shoenborn in treatment and to not have such annual release hearings. I agree.
Yesterday I returned to the BC Review Board website and noticed when I clicked on the “Hearing Schedule” link this message was in place of the schedule:
“The BCRB Website Schedule is currently under review. Please contact the office for up-to-date hearing schedule information: 604 660 8789″
Seemed odd that the calendar was now gone so I called the BC Review Board to ask about Shoenborn. Here is the 40 second phone call:

The comment on the echo was because we had a bad connection and I was hearing myself one second after I was speaking. Very annoying so I rushed my conversation.
What struck me was how quickly the person on the phone had information about Shoenborn’s review date (April 20th-ish). I am guessing media called the BC Review Board over the last few days so having the information at hand made sense. On the positive side, with the possible April 20th date, this means the hearing is 101 days away – more time to take action.
What sort of action? More details coming soon…
