This proves the power of social media.
Yesterday, I received an email from the Executive Director of SHARE who operates the Food Bank in Port Moody, BC. In short, they have no food. So, I wrote a blog piece, Tweeted out, sent to Facebook and BOOM! it took off.
Chris Parry from the Vancouver Sun wrote a piece for the newspaper’s Blog, then Tweeted, then added to iPad / iPhone app and then published in today’s paper. My friends at CKNW and CBC radio picked up the story and ran it every 30 to 60 minutes for the last 24 hours. Now Global TV and others have joined in.
Heather tells me donations are coming in which is AWESOME. But CKNW wants to do MORE.
So tomorrow – Wednesday, December 15 from 3pm to 7pm CKNW and SHARE are hosting a food drive in the parking lot of Save-On-Foods on Pinetree in Coquitlam. Bring non-perishable items (canned veggies, pasta, canned meats, etc.) so we can fill up the truck, drive it right to the Food Bank and start filling up Christmas hampers!
Here is a 5 minute CKNW radio interview Heather finished as I was hitting publish on this piece! Plus Heather will be on Global News in the morning to hype this event.
