After School Special: “Please Stop Using Social Media, Mom!”

In 1994 it was suggested I was addicted to the Internet. In fact, a documentary crew filmed me and my girlfriend at home for an episode entitled “Cyber Widows” in which I may have appeared nude.

In a surely unrelated matter, I am no longer with that girlfriend.

Fast forward to today and I have been accused by many folks of being addicted to social media. I prefer to think of it as other folks are slow to accept social media as our overlords.

Seriously though, I have integrated my passion to be my career. I now use, teach, consult and implement social media plans to help others meet their communications and/or campaign goals. And believe it or not – I more well balanced now with work / life than ten years ago BT (Before Twitter).

But that said, can there be too much social media in one’s life? Of course. Like any addiction, if one uses social media and it hampers relationships, steals time from work, sucks away enjoyment, etc. then for the love of Zuckerberg – STOP!

With all that in mind, you can understand why I think this video parody of an 1980′s “After School Speical” is funny yet pointent.
