One final finger from Scott Young to PoCo

Scotty Young AWOL at last Council meeting.

Today at 4:30pm was the deadline for Candidates in the November 2008 Municipal Elections to submit their financial disclosure documents.

You can view those documents for Port Coquitlam candidates HERE.

There is one set of documents missing – disgraced former Mayor Scott Young.

To review, Scott was convicted of a number of assault charges against his former girlfriend; most likely violated the terms of his probation; took $10,000 that he banked with the City after the 2005 election to run for City Council; comes in 10th of 23 in the Council race where the top 6 are elected (full disclosure, I also ran and placed 8th); does not bother to show up for his last council meeting; and now, he does not file his financial disclosure papers on time.

This was confirmed during a phone conversation with PoCo’s Corporate Office at 4:31pm-ish today.

Under section 90.2 of the Local Government Act, Scott now has 30 days to file at which point he will be fined $500.  After 30 days, he will be disqualified from running in the next election.

If Scott does not file within the 30 days, the City / Provincial Government needs to compel him to disclose what he did with the $10,000 and other funds he received during the campaign.  It is possible that once again he has a surplus which needs to be deposited with the City of Port Coquitlam.

I must admit, I am also curious as to which companies, unions and individuals financially supported him.  All I am looking for is disclosure as is prescribed under the law.

My thinking is if he is not willing to disclose these bits of financial matters – what else did he hide during his term as Mayor?

Stay tuned.
