The 26 story condo on the former Shell Station passed third reading tonight and is a done deal.
These folks voted FOR the condo:
Mayor Young      Con. Wright       Con Crowe      Con. Bowen
These folks voted AGAINST the condo:
Con. Penner       Con. Moore     Con. Forrest

Don’t forget, Mr. Moore himself voted against twice and maybe he knew elections was coming and felt the public pressure. There is more than what the public should know. There is nothing wrong with the highrise, the city is growing and we are not living in the past anymore.
Maybe Mr. Moore himself should tell the truth why he changed his mind and didn’t stick with in favor of the highrise till the end.
Everyone has a black side and including yourself and I may know more about what people have said about you then you would know. However, I won’t use that against you like you are with Scott Young. Be a man and stand up and face him with issues than trying to trash talk him.
I don’t support Scott and never had in the past, but that doesn’t mean I hate the man. He has done a very good job as a mayor and way better than anyone would on council.
Shawn:
Since you mentioned that Mr. Moore voted twice against the highrise and the above article states he voted against the third reading (I count that three out of three), I don’t understand what you mean by “he changed his mind”. Further, you seem to be implying that there was some ulterior motive for Mr. Moore’s apparent change of mind. As you you have written, I suggest that you “Be a man and stand up and face him (with what you know) than trying to trash talk him.” Similarly, you also seem to have a burr up your backside concerning “black side” information which you apparently have about Dave Teixeira. Wow, Shawn, you are a true gem, taking public pot shots at people, but hiding behind your anonymity. Here is what I recommend, arrange meetings with Messrs. Moore and Teixeira and discuss your concerns with them. That will be the “man” way to do things!
My error, Mr. Moore had voted twice in favor.
Very unprofessional for someone who can’t challenge the mayor on issues, but instead, trying to knock him down with his personal life.
Just to let you guys know, I am all for against highrises, but the current council including Mr. Moore himself have made a huge mistake to even let that first two readings went ahead. However, this is the future, people are moving this way from vancouver and we just have to face the facts that highrises will start to build in Poco like it or not and just needs to be in the right location.
No problem, Shawn, “To err is human”. But could you also have made another mistake referring to Dave Teixeira as “unprofessional”. I suggest you are missing the key point of his article and, to refresh your memory, please google “Scott Young, Mayor, POCO”
Michael, I guess you are Dave’s advisor and assistant. Everyone has their own opinion about city council escpecillay the past year and it’s all history now. I just don’t like to see candidates running campaign using someone’s problem in the past, but instead challenge their opponent on issues that the city needs.
Have a good thanksgiving weekend to you all.
And a happy thanksgiving to you too, Shawn. It is indeed sad that you have such a myopic point of view on Dave Teixeira’s campaign, which clearly outlines his platform on many issues of concern to the city. I hope you will come to see these positive aspects of his campaign and vote for him on November 15.
Best of luck to you.
Here’s my question-
What are you candidates intend to do now that the highrise has been passed? How can one mayoral candidate continue to say that he’s against it and has vote against it, but what is he going to do now? You can’t scrap the project, you can’t scrap the connector, the courts will be after the city.
One thing this new council can do is to look ahead and prevent further mistakes made by council and should hold better and effective inputs from the public. I would like to see all three readings on who voted for and against. Why post the last reading when the public should be getting candidates explaining their reasoning on all three readings.
I like a balance city, so do something about it, don’t wind, don’t complain, don’t seek voters by telling them that you have voted against or in favor. Don’t promise the public and kiss up to me and say I can put a dog park vote for you I can lower your tax, I can stop this higj rise, I can do this, do that. Looking at the gas issue. Yes, as a city, you candidates can come together and do something about it with this pathetic carbon tax. I am for going GREEN, but this is a scam!!! Look at the gas prices. Why the hell are we still paying carbon tax.
The majority of the public was against this. We didn’t even get educated, not well informed, not well debated and still passed. I have voted for this scandulous Liberal party and they have been a discgraced to this country and now this province and same goes with other political parties. How can I give back my 100 dollar carbon tax crap?
The article last week comment about the Chamber of Commerce is bang on!!! Let the public speak, you are not our boss, you don’t bring money and food to my home. Where is the freedom and our rights to speak without having to be controlled? Next week’s candiate meeting will not worth debating.
You can moderate improper languages, but don’t control what we want to ask. Everyone that wants to speak, let them speak because we have the right.
My family won’t be voting because none of you leaders can deliver solutions, instead continue on to find ways to get rid of Young, the high rise, the connector. About the heritage house on Mary Hill, as much as my family loves to treasure our pass buidlings, I don’t see myself benefiting out of this house. I would rather you city spend the relocating money and other expenses and put towards a museum for Poco.
